BEE-educated

2016

The BEE-Educated project is an educational game designed to teach children about bees and their importance in our society. The game was developed for Lieteberg, a nature and educational center located in Zutendaal, Belgium.

The game involves a series of tasks that lead children from one post to another. At each post, they can complete various activities and learn about bees and their role in the ecosystem. There is also a central post where children can collect points and where the unique seating furniture made from old wooden paloxes is located.

This furniture is a bench made from old wooden paloxes, which are used to transport fruit. The bench consists of three parts and each one is unique because the wood from the paloxes has different shades and inscriptions, depending on the original owner and the age of the wood. The piece of furniture is a direct reference to the fruit-producing region, and the hexagonal shape refers to the honeycomb and bees, which are central to the educational game. The use of old wooden paloxes makes the furniture sustainable and contributes to raising awareness about the importance of reusing and upcycling materials.
